Andrea Hutslar, Outreach Curator, will present a Gallery Talk on "Hysteria: Women's Health in the 1800s", on Friday, September 5th at 11 am at Ruthmere. Women have long been battling for proper and equal treatment in many areas throughout history, all of which centered on how society viewed a woman's body and mind. Andrea will discuss how women's physical and mental health was perceived, researched, and cared for in the 19th century - a time when women were making incredible strides towards their equality. But even over a century later, have we gone far enough?

Gallery Talks feature a twenty-minute discussion on an object/artwork within the Ruthmere collection or a person or event in local history. Our Gallery Talks are free and open to the public.

This talk is sponsored by Ann Wroblewski. Thank you!
